More Than Tango, It's About You

Posted by Picasa

It's not just about tango.

Tango is the black, bad ass '51 Mercury that we drive in the dark of night to get us there, but it's not my destination.

You're my destination.

I don't tango just to tango. I tango to hold you in a close embrace, to move with you, to connect with you.

And I don't take tango lessons just to improve at this dance. I study for days and months and years, so I can develop my lead and movement because then I can connect with you in a way that is mas profundo.

The better I lead, the less distracted I am by my mistakes. The smoother I move, the more I can stop thinking and simply be with you now.

Yes, we're surrounded by hundreds of people, but they're not here. I'm only here with you.

I love tango for her journey, but you're my destination. Remember that always.

Word.
Mark

I *heart* you, Mark. For this marvelous post. For knowing the real reason we Tango.

Thank you, my dear Johanna. I "heart" you, too.

We haven't tangoed before, but I know we will one day. Until then it's my loss.

(FYI, I had the title of my post wrong, so I just changed it to what it was supposed to be: "More Than Tango, It's About You". Ahh, the joys of making a late night mistake.)

Well, Mark, I knew exactly what you meant, mistake or not.

And I know WHEN we finally do Tango, it will be as blissful as I imagine :-)

Thank you, Mtnhighmama. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Yes, Johanna, I agree. But please keep in mind that I'm sure you're at least as twice as good at tango as I am.

As long as we dance for each other, it WILL be blissful :-)

Oh, what a beauty...
I wish more leaders would be as embracing as you seem to be, Mark... We will probably not be dancing together (I am in Montreal), but I wish we could! :-)

How eloquently and soulfully you've written about your tango! And your dancing embraces your words, completely. For me, tango is the journey, and surrendering paves the path to a heart-filled connection of two beings moving as one. Richer and more satisfying than exquisite dark chocolate could ever be!

Thank you, MtnHighMama. BTW, your "Foster Kids" post on your blog www.MtnHighMama.blogspot.com) is so powerful. Kudos to you for helping these children so much.

Thanks, Alex. That car is so awesome. How cool it would be to own one of those classics?

Thanks, Studio Wellspring. What a beautiful photo of you on your cool blog (www.studiowellspring.blogspot.com).

And I apologize in advance if I'm wrong about this, but I don't think we've tangoed before. Since we're both in SF, though, I hope we can share a tanda sooner than later.

Thanks, Tassili. You're so lucky to live in Montreal--one of my favorite cities.

I hope we can tango one day. Since Nito & Elba are still tangoing in their seventies, I should have at least another 3 decades of tango in me. Hopefully, I'll be in Montreal again or you in San Francisco at some point & we can tango then.

Thank you, Laila! And thanks for your posts. It was great tangoing with you this weekend, although I'm sorry we weren't able to dance more Saturday night.

Fantastic. But does it have to be about a car???

Is your next poem going to be about how tango is like cold beer and a football game?

I, for one, don't agree at all. Tango isn't about symbiosis, not about regression... It's coexistence, with respect, with plenty of air and distance, but still being in unison.

If our deepest reason to dance is wanting to create as deep a connection as possible — well, then tango is a huge detour.

It's a very romantic thought. But it's not that simple.

I recently discovered your blog and I love this post. I felt my heart melt. I hope to dance with someone soon with this kind of soul.
